Hawler Medical University Sends Five Pharmacy Students to UK for Advanced Training

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Hawler Medical University has sent five students from its College of Pharmacy to the United Kingdom to attend an advanced training course as part of an academic agreement with the University of Strathclyde.

Speaking to Kurdistan24 on Tuesday, Karwan Mohammed M-Amen, Assistant President of Hawler Medical University, said the university had signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK university following a visit to Britain earlier this year.

“In February this year, we visited the UK to benefit from the country’s experience in the pharmaceutical sector. As part of that effort, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Hawler Medical University and the UK’s renowned University of Strathclyde,” M-Amen said.

He added that five pharmacy students had arrived in the UK in recent days to take part in a specialized course and benefit from the academic and medical expertise of the University of Strathclyde. 

M-Amen said the initiative would help familiarize the students with the latest scientific developments in the pharmaceutical and medical fields. During their stay, the students will also visit advanced hospitals in the UK, allowing them to gain first-hand experience of the country’s healthcare system.

The university official said sending students abroad was part of the institution’s broader efforts to improve academic standards.

“In previous years, we have also sent several of our students to Egypt. Our main objective is to raise the academic standards of our students, as Hawler Medical University is the only specialized medical university in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” he said.

Hawler Medical University is a leading public higher education institution established in July 2005 by the Kurdistan Regional Government. It was created to centralize and advance medical education by separating the existing medical group colleges from Salahaddin University-Erbil.
