Iran’s Parliament Speaker Says Tehran Is Ready for Both War and Negotiations
Iran’s parliament speaker says Tehran rejects the choice between war and negotiations, as tensions with the United States reach a dangerous level.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday that Tehran has firm options in confronting challenges, arguing that Iran can fight with wisdom while negotiating at an appropriate time from a position of strength.
Speaking during a parliamentary session on Sunday, Ghalibaf said the resistance of the Iranian people provides security for the country and could create new economic and strategic opportunities through the formation of a new system for the region and the world.
He said the people’s “valuable and historic resistance” would take Iran to a new level of power and development.
Addressing foreign policy and the challenges facing Iran, Ghalibaf said Tehran does not view war and negotiations as mutually exclusive options.
He said: “We believe that the duality of war or negotiations is not a real thing. Rather, we must both fight and negotiate.”
Ghalibaf added that Iran should “fight wisely and with power” while negotiating at an appropriate time “with wisdom and from a strong position.”
Ghalibaf’s remarks come as military tensions between the United States and Iran have reached a dangerous level, particularly in southern Iran.
The US military has targeted several Iranian military bases, missile centers, and naval facilities in southern provinces and other areas through air and missile strikes.
As confrontations have intensified, commercial trade and the movement of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz have faced significant risks and obstacles, contributing to higher energy prices in global markets.
While the United States is seeking to provide maritime security and escort commercial vessels, Iranian officials have continued to emphasize their authority over the strait and warned against any unwanted military movements.
US President Donald Trump, in his latest remarks, said the war with Iran would end soon and claimed that officials in Tehran are highly eager to reach an agreement with Washington.
Ghalibaf’s comments, however, emphasize Tehran’s position that military resistance and negotiations can be pursued simultaneously, with negotiations conducted from what he described as a position of strength.
