Prime Minister Barzani Welcomes New French Consul General in Kurdistan Region
Ambassador Emmanuel Mignot outlines plans to strengthen France–Kurdistan ties and prepare for construction of a new French consulate building in Erbil
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday, received Ambassador Emmanuel Mignot, the newly appointed French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, in Erbil.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Mignot expressed his pleasure at taking up his new post in the Kurdistan Region and outlined plans and activities aimed at further strengthening relations between France and the Kurdistan Region in the coming period.
The French consul general also referred to preparations for the construction of a new building for France’s consulate in Erbil.
Prime Minister Barzani congratulated Mignot on assuming his new position and expressed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s support for his efforts to successfully carry out his duties.
Barzani highlighted the longstanding friendship and relations between the Kurdistan Region and France, expressing his appreciation to the French government and people for their support for the people of Kurdistan at various stages.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the general situation in Iraq and the wider region.
France and the Kurdistan Region have maintained longstanding political, security, economic, and cultural ties. France has been a key partner of the Kurdistan Region, particularly in security cooperation and the fight against ISIS, while relations have also expanded into trade, investment, culture, and education.
France opened its Consulate General in Erbil in 2009, and the two sides have continued to strengthen their partnership through high-level political engagement and bilateral agreements.
