UPDATED: Four Peshmerga Stable After Lightning Strike on Khazir Front
Four Peshmerga fighters were injured after lightning struck a military base on the Khazir front on Sunday. They are receiving treatment in hospital.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Four Peshmerga fighters injured when lightning struck their base on the Khazir front on Sunday are in stable condition and remain under medical supervision, according to a doctor treating them.
The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. on Oct. 11 while the fighters were on duty.
One of the injured Peshmerga told Kurdistan24 that the lightning struck an electric floodlight at the base.
"It was around 10:00 a.m. and we were on duty when lightning struck an electric floodlight," he said. "As a result, I and three other Peshmerga were injured."
The four fighters were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
According to the injured Peshmerga, two sustained minor injuries, while the other two suffered injuries affecting their legs and backs.
Dr. Solin Kawa, an emergency physician at Erbil West Emergency Hospital, told Kurdistan24 that all four were in stable condition.
"The condition of all four Peshmerga fighters is stable," she said.
Dr. Solin said one fighter was experiencing more severe pain than the others because the electrical current from the lightning strike had affected him more strongly.
She said the current caused muscle injuries and that the fighter remains under medical observation.
The other Peshmerga are also continuing to receive the necessary treatment following the incident.
