Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, head of Reconstruction and Development Coalition, discussed Erbil-Baghdad relations, political coordination and the Kurdistan Region's share of Iraq's 2027 federal budget.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition and former Iraqi prime minister, for talks on political developments, Erbil-Baghdad relations and the 2027 federal budget.
According to a Kurdistan Regional Government readout, the two sides discussed the broader situation in Iraq and the region, as well as relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.
They agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination among Iraq's political parties to support the federal government in increasing public revenues, addressing current challenges and providing services to all citizens and communities without discrimination.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani also emphasized the need to respect the Kurdistan Region's constitutional status and financial entitlements.
He stressed that the Region's share of the 2027 federal general budget should be determined fairly and in line with what the KRG described as the Kurdistan Region's 14% share of Iraq's population.
The figure is based on the approved results of Iraq's latest general census, conducted in 2024, according to the KRG statement.
The meeting comes as political parties continue discussions over Iraq's fiscal and political priorities, including questions related to public revenues and the relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region.
The KRG readout did not provide further details on whether specific mechanisms for determining the Region's 2027 budget allocation were discussed.
