ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Romanian Ambassador to Iraq Radu Octavian Dobre on Tuesday to discuss strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and Romania and the latest political developments in the region.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral relations across various fields, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The discussions also addressed the importance of reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament as the first step toward forming the Kurdistan Region’s new cabinet, as well as the need to respect the Region’s constitutional rights and financial entitlements.

Barzani and Dobre further exchanged views on the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region.

Strengthening Kurdistan Region–Romania Relations

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by the Kurdistan Region to strengthen its diplomatic and economic partnerships with European countries, including Romania.

Previous meetings between the two sides have also focused on expanding bilateral relations, including cooperation in information technology and agriculture.

Strengthening bilateral ties could provide opportunities for greater engagement in economic, trade, agricultural, and other sectors, while reinforcing diplomatic relations between Erbil and Bucharest.

The discussion on constitutional rights and financial entitlements also comes amid continuing relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Iraq’s federal government over the Region’s constitutional position, budget allocations, and financial obligations.

Reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament remains a key step toward establishing the Region’s next government cabinet and advancing the political process following the parliamentary elections.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued diplomatic engagement as the Kurdistan Region works to advance government formation, protect its constitutional entitlements, and strengthen relations with international partners.
