Iraq’s Deputy Industry Minister Arrested on Bribery Allegations

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraqi security forces arrested Nasser Kadhim Jabr, deputy minister of industry and minerals, on Tuesday, on allegations of accepting a bribe, an informed source told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
According to the source, a team from the Federal Commission of Integrity (FCoI) arrested Jabr at the residence of a cement factory owner in Samawah, the capital of Muthanna Governorate.
Jabr was allegedly caught red-handed receiving money from the factory owner in exchange for facilitating a deal and granting concessions, the source said.
During the operation, security forces raided the location, seized the money, and took the deputy minister into custody for legal proceedings.
The arrest comes amid Iraq’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and financial crimes. However, further details about the alleged transaction and the legal proceedings against Jabr were not immediately available.
Iraq’s anti-graft campaign, launched in late June under Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, has been referred to as “Operation Dawn” (Sawlat al-Fajr). The campaign is reportedly led by the Federal Commission of Integrity, with security forces supporting enforcement operations.
The campaign has resulted in the recovery of more than $1 billion in assets and the detention of over 200 high-profile public officials, lawmakers, and corporate executives.
