ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Stephan Wendt, the new head of the European Union Liaison Office in Erbil, on Tuesday for talks focused on strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and the European Union.

During the Oct. 20 meeting, Prime Minister Barzani congratulated Wendt on assuming his new responsibilities and wished him success in his mission.

Prime Minister Barzani also expressed the Kurdistan Regional Government's support for the work of the EU Liaison Office and its new head.

Wendt, for his part, emphasized the importance of further developing ties between the European Union and the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting also covered reforms being carried out by the Kurdistan Regional Government across various sectors.

Both sides additionally exchanged views on the broader political and security situation in Iraq and the wider region.

The discussions come as the EU Liaison Office in Erbil continues its engagement with the Kurdistan Regional Government and other institutions in the Region.

Wendt recently assumed leadership of the office, succeeding Radu Butum.

Tuesday's meeting focused on maintaining and expanding that relationship, with both the KRG and the EU representative expressing support for stronger engagement.

The talks did not announce any new formal agreements or initiatives, but placed continued cooperation, government reforms and regional developments among the main areas discussed.
