Ukrainian Embassy In Iraq Rejects Iranian Media Claims Of Drone Deployment In Kurdistan Region
The embassy says Ukraine has deployed no drones, drone units, or related personnel anywhere in Iraq or the Kurdistan Region and calls on media outlets to exercise caution before publishing unverified claims
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - The Ukrainian Embassy in Iraq issued an official statement on Wednesday rejecting reports published by Iran's Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday that claimed Ukraine had deployed a drone unit and thousands of drones in the Kurdistan Region, describing the allegations as completely baseless and a form of deliberate disinformation.
The Tasnim Agency had cited an unidentified security source in making the claim that Ukraine had established a drone unit and deployed thousands of unmanned aerial vehicles in the Kurdistan Region.
The Ukrainian Embassy stated that Ukraine has not deployed any type of drone, drone unit, or related personnel in the Kurdistan Region or anywhere else in Iraq, and emphasized that the claims are entirely without foundation. The embassy reaffirmed Ukraine's full respect for Iraqi sovereignty and territorial integrity, and said Ukraine is proud of its friendly relations with both the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The embassy called on media organizations to exercise caution and to refrain from publishing unverified allegations of this kind.
The timing of the Tasnim report is notable. It was published on Tuesday, the same day Ukrainian Ambassador Ivan Dovhanych was visiting Erbil for a series of meetings with Kurdish political leaders and the Ukrainian community, and giving an exclusive interview to Kurdistan 24. The Tasnim Agency, Iran's semi-official news outlet with close ties to the IRGC, has been an active source of information operations targeting American-aligned actors in the region throughout the US-Iran conflict.
