Chinese Consulate General hosts National Day reception in Kurdistan

The Consulate General of China in Erbil held a reception, marking the 67th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – On Thursday, the Consulate General of China in Erbil held a reception, marking the 67th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.

The reception was attended by many Kurdish officials, including the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Masrour Barzani, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, KRG ministers and members of Parliament as well as diplomats.

In the event, the Consul General of China in Erbil Tan Banglin explained the importance of the day to the attendees and wished peace, happiness, and prosperity to the people of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, according to the KRG Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) media office.

Banglin hoped that the relations between the Kurdistan Region and China would continue to improve in all aspects.

The head of DFR Falah Mustafa congratulated the people of China on their national day. “China's extraordinary economic growth and active diplomacy during the past few decades have turned the country into a stable, peaceful, prosperous and powerful one.”

“The relationship between China and Kurdistan Region has grown considerably since the opening of the Chinese Consulate General in Erbil. Since then, we have worked together to forge a long-term partnership that could benefit the interests of both sides,” Mustafa continued. “There is potential and desire from both sides to further consolidate our ties in all potential areas of cooperation.”

On December 30, 2014, China opened its Consulate General in Erbil with the presence of the Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Zhang Ming and the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.

There are over 30 foreign consulates and representative offices in the Kurdistan Region and the number continues to grow, especially after the Ukrainian Ambassador to Iraq Anatolii Marynets recently visited the Region and expressed his country’s desire to open an honorary consulate in Erbil.
