Shahab reaffirmed, “We are very close to an agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Region is edging closer to the formation of a new government, with senior officials confirming that negotiations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are progressing constructively. On Monday, Dilshad Shahab, the spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, told Kurdistan24 that “we are very close to reaching an agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.”
Shahab stated that a “comprehensive roadmap” is being developed for the upcoming cabinet, aiming to form a government that meets the expectations of the public. “We want to build a government that aligns with the people's aspirations,” he noted.
He emphasized that one of the core principles in forming the next government is respecting the voice of the electorate. “The government must be built upon the people’s vote, and that vote must be honored,” he added.
Regarding the ongoing negotiations between the KDP and PUK, Shahab reaffirmed, “We are very close to an agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.”
According to party officials, representatives from both the KDP and the PUK are scheduled to meet on Tuesday, (April 15, 2025), to finalize discussions on forming the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Both sides have expressed optimism, signaling that a new government might soon be announced after months of political deadlock.
The success of this process is viewed as vital for maintaining political stability in the Kurdistan Region amidst broader instability in Iraq and the Middle East.
