US Has Held Direct Talks With Houthis to Manage Yemen Crisis, Vance Says

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — US Vice President J.D. Vance said Sunday that the United States has been engaged in direct conversations with Yemen’s Houthi rebels as Washington seeks to manage the escalating regional crisis.
Vance said the US administration is closely monitoring developments in Yemen and remains in constant contact with regional partners, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
“We’ve been engaged in direct conversations with the Houthis themselves,” Vance said, emphasizing Washington’s efforts to manage the crisis through communication alongside regional coordination.
His remarks came amid a volatile week in the Middle East, following a major Houthi offensive that captured strategic islands and the remaining Yemeni Red Sea coast.
Asked specifically about the Houthi seizure of Perim Island, also known as Mayun Island, Vance said the White House was keeping a close watch on the development.
He described the regional situation as “very fluid and dynamic,” but said the administration would continue monitoring developments to ensure that US interests are protected.
Vance added that Washington remains in close contact with countries affected by developments in the region as it assesses the evolving situation.
