ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Two Turkish soldiers were injured Saturday when their vehicle was hit by an explosion north of Nineveh in Duhok province, the mayor of Shekhan town said.

A Turkish army convoy was targeted with a suspected improvised explosive device while traveling near the military camp between Bashiqa and Zelikan village, the official said.

Asayish and police were investigating the incident, which has not yet been confirmed by the Turkish defense ministry.

A Turkish soldier died in April when Zelikan camp was struck by two rockets fired by Iran-backed militias based in Iraq. That attack also injured a civilian in Zelikan village and came just after an explosive-laden drone hit Erbil airport in the Kurdistan Region’s capital.
