ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday to meet with that country’s top officials.

The prime minister will meet with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates.

They will discuss recent developments in Iraq and the Middle East and the means of developing relations between their nations.

The visit’s agenda also includes discussing the enhancement of cooperation mechanisms across all sectors.

On Monday, in the second such attack in a week, Yemeni Houthi rebels fired ballistic missiles at the UAE. Coalition forces retaliated with airstrikes.

Witnesses saw bright flashes arcing over the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi in the early hours of Monday as a UAE air defense system intercepted two ballistic missiles.

An industrial site in the Emirati capital was attacked by drones on Jan. 17. The Iranian-backed Houthis said they had carried out an assault “deep” in the UAE.

Shortly after that attack, Prime Minister Barzani tweeted his “strong” condemnation of “the heinous terror attack” and expressed his sympathies for the injured and families of those who lost their lives.

“I strongly condemn today’s heinous terror attack on Abu Dhabi,” Barzani said. “This dangerous escalation is part of a pattern to destabilize the region.”

“My thoughts are with the injured and the families of those lost,” he added.

“The Kurdistan Region stands with the people and government of the UAE.”
