KDP President Barzani discusses fight against ISIS with Czech Consul General

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani met with Czech Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Karel Kortanek, in Salahadin on Sunday and discussed the role of the Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS.

“A number of issues were discussed including the latest developments in Iraq, relations between the Czech Republic and the KRI (Kurdistan Region of Iraq) and the role of the Peshmerga in the fight against ISIS,” the official account of the KDP Foreign Relations Office tweeted.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met Kortanek on Feb. 1 and congratulated him on his appointment.

The Czech Republic opened its diplomatic office in Erbil in May 2006, making it one of the first European countries to do so.

On the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Czech Republic's representative office, the European nation's Consulate General in Erbil hosted a Kurdish-Czech concert at the city's ancient citadel on Sept. 29, 2021.

According to the Czech Consulate General the history of friendship between Czech and Kurdish people goes back to the 1950s.
