ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A US Senator on Monday praised the cooperation between the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in the Mosul military operation, hoping the collaboration expanded to other aspects in the country.

US Senator Bob Corker and his accompanying delegates met with the Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

During the meeting, the representatives praised the Kurdish forces, people of the Kurdistan Region, and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for fighting the Islamic State (IS) and welcoming over 1.8 million refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Corker reiterated the US’ support for the Region and its people in combating terrorism and receiving civilians, according to the KRG Press Office.

He also highlighted the cooperation between Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in the Mosul operation.

The Senator hoped Kurdistan would play its role regarding reconciliation in Iraq, reassuring the US would address all the issues between the Erbil and Baghdad governments.

PM Barzani pointed to the sacrifices of the Peshmerga and the people of Kurdistan in the IS war and receiving refugees and IDPs.

Moreover, the PM praised the US-led support for the Peshmerga in defeating the extremist group.

He mentioned there was good military cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad, but no development had taken place regarding other aspects.

PM Barzani stated the people of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq had the right to be assured of their future.

He called for reconciliation among the people inside the country parallel to the military operations against IS which he believed the federal government of Iraq still had not discussed.

The financial crisis in the Kurdistan Region was another topic discussed during the meeting between both sides.

In the same day, Corker and his delegates visited an IDP camp in Erbil and closely witnessed the situation in the Region.
