High-level Iraqi delegation to visit Kurdistan following passing of KRG PM’s brother

The purpose of the trip is to pay respects to the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Prime Minister on the death of his brother Dilovan Idris Barzani.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – A well-informed source told Kurdistan 24 on Tuesday that a high-level delegation from the Iraqi government will visit the Kurdistan Region to offer their condolences following the passing of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani’s brother.

“A high-level delegation from the capital of Baghdad, headed by President Fuad Masum, and other senior figures, will arrive on Wednesday to the city of Erbil in the Kurdistan Region,” the source revealed.

They added that the purpose of the trip was to pay respects to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Prime Minister on the death of his brother Dilovan Idris Barzani.

Iraqi President Masum, as well as Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, extended their condolences to the Kurdistan Region PM in separate statements on Monday.

“With more sadness and sorrow we have received the news of the death of your brother, Dilovan Barzani, who died of a heart attack this morning,” Masum said in a letter.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the members of the family and all of his friends, asking the Almighty to embrace him,” the Iraqi President added.

Dilovan died suddenly on Monday in Erbil after suffering from a heart attack at the age of 51.

He was born in 1966 in the Barzan area and was the twin brother of Prime Minister Barzani.

He held no official position but was considered a prominent social figure, taking part in events across the Kurdistan Region as a representative for the Kurdish Prime Minister.

A funeral and mourning period of three days, beginning Tuesday, was held in the town of Pirmam in Erbil.
