COVID-19: KRG announces 215 new infections, 140 recoveries in 24 hours

On Saturday, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health announced 215 new coronavirus infections, ten deaths due to the disease, and 140 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Saturday, the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Health announced 215 new coronavirus infections, ten deaths due to the disease, and 140 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

According to a ministry statement, 2,281 tests were carried out during the same period, of which 215 came back positive: 76 in Erbil province, 114 Sulaimani, 11 Duhok, and 14 in Halabja.

The statement mentioned that ten more people had passed away due to the disease.

According to the health ministry, the total number of infections has now reached 12,253, of which 6,735 have recovered, 5,044 remain active, and 474 have died.

The new cases come, as the Directorate of Religious Affairs in Erbil province announced on Saturday the reopening of the mosques to worshipers. Authorities state that all mosques must adhere to the health instructions and preventive measures.

Sadiq Kabrani, the head of the body, said: "After obtaining the approval of the ministries of interior and health, we decided to reopen all mosques to perform daily rituals only."

Kabrani also said that the mosques that will reopen are required to follow health guidelines to protect worshippers.
