ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Colonel Todd Burroughs, Deputy Director of the US-led coalition’s Military Advisor Group North, in a tweet on Sunday said that the coalition is working to provide support to the Peshmerga.

“Today, @CJTFOIR Sustainment Advisors and @KRG_MOPE (Ministry of Peshmerga) M4 Warehouse personnel discussed the divestments and distributions of the coming weeks,” he said.

“We are working together to provide logistical support to the #Peshmerga to #DefeatDaesh.”

Last week, the coalition official confirmed that the Ministry of Peshmerga had received construction vehicles through the US Department of Defense (DoD)-funded Counter-ISIS Train and Equip Fund (CTEF) program.

This latest divestment enhances Peshmerga combat power by providing the equipment necessary for protection, mobility, and counter-mobility,” he told Kurdistan 24 last week.

“We are committed to our partnership with the Peshmerga and we will enable the Peshmerga to secure the enduring defeat of Daesh (Arabic acronym for ISIS).”

Moreover, Colonel Burroughs said on Sunday he had had an “incredibly productive meeting with the @KRG_MOPE (Ministry of Peshmerga) Chief of Staff.”

“We discussed the progress of the joint brigades, Peshmerga reform, and #Peshmerga/#ISF (Iraqi Security Forces) joint operations to #DefeatDaesh (Arabic acronym for ISIS).”

Three Kurdish Peshmerga forces were killed repelling an Islamic State attack in early December on a disputed town in the Iraqi province of Diyala, while separate ISIS attacks in the same time period left at least five people dead and dozens more injured.

The Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Peshmerga Affairs said before the New Year that increased collaboration in recent months by Kurdish and Iraqi forces has been effective in reducing ISIS activity in territories disputed by Baghdad and Erbil.
