ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Future Syria Party announced that two of its members were killed in an attack on its headquarters in the town of Arima on Jan. 13, the Syria-based Rojava Information Centre (RIC) reported on Saturday.

Future Syria Party members Hajj Bakour and Zakaria al-Abd al-Jabbar were killed when unknown assailants attacked the party’s headquarters.

“The party accused ‘some mercenaries, hired men, and armed gangs who work to serve the expansionist projects of some regional countries that cross borders and serve tyrannical regimes’ of being behind the attack,” the RIC said.

The Manbij Military Council (MMC), supported by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), liberated Manbij with US support in 2016 in one of the bloodiest campaigns Syria witnessed against the extremist group.

Even though ISIS lost the entirety of its self-styled caliphate in 2019, the group continues to mount attacks across Syria, most of them targeting the SDF and civilians in SDF-held areas.

Nevertheless, it’s unclear who is responsible for the recent attack on the Future Syria Party which was originally established in 2018.

Moreover, attacks in Manbij are relatively rare compared to other regions.
