ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Friday, the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, spoke to the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, on the phone, and wished him a speedy recovery from COVID-19.

The Turkish chief diplomat was set to attend the 58th Munich Security Conference in Germany’s Bavaria region but tested positive for the highly infectious disease.

Barzani had a phone call with the Turkish diplomat and wished him a “quick recovery,” according to a tweet.

“I was glad to hear he’s in good spirits. My thoughts are with him,” Barzani added.

The two politicians also discussed the recent developments in Iraq, the Kurdish prime minister said.

Earlier on Friday, Barzani met with the Italian defense minister on the sidelines of the conference and talked with him about the continued ISIS threat.

Having arrived in Germany on Friday, the prime minister and the Kurdistan Region President, Nechirvan Barzani, are both representing the Kurdistan Region at the conference.

The major themes of this year’s conference center on climate change, global security challenges, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
