ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a statement issued on the occasion of New Year, the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday hailed citizens’ resilience for withstanding the “tough financial situation” amid halted budget transfer by Baghdad.

In the first part of the statement, the premier extended his “warmest congratulations” to the people of the Kurdistan Region, members of the security forces, and families of martyrs.

“I applaud the Kurdistan Region citizens’ resilience for enduring a tough financial situation last year due to halting the financial entitlements by the federal government,” Barzani wrote in a statement, hoping the “injustice” against Kurdish employees to end in 2024.

Barzani urged the Kurdish parties to place the high national interests above party and individual interests.

Despite the financial hardships the Region suffered last year, in cooperation with the private sector, the KRG was able to execute several projects in different fields.

The Kurdistan Region’s diplomatic relations with other countries witnessed a growth, Barzani said.

Despite the adoption of Iraq’s three-year budget in June 2023, the Kurdistan Region has not received its share, leading to numerous delays to the public servants’ salaries.

The KRG on several occasions has called for resolving the outstanding issues based on the Iraqi constitution and the political agreements that had led to the formation of Al-Sudani’s government.
