KDP President Barzani Meets Sunni Leaders, Political Parties in Baghdad

Addressing the meeting of coalition forces, President Barzani emphasized that this issue should be handled with a national consensus, prioritizing Iraq's and the region's interests and stability.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Thursday, KDP President Masoud Barzani met with Sunni leaders and political parties at the residence of Sheikh Khamis al-Khanjar in Baghdad.

According to a statement from Barzani's headquarters, the Sunni leaders and parties welcomed President Barzani's visit, considering it a historic and significant step that would positively impact the entire political process.

They discussed the demands and problems of the Sunni community, including the issue of appointing the speaker of the Iraqi parliament.

The Sunni political parties called on President Barzani to support the Iraqi political process to help all communities address their issues and demands, thereby strengthening the political landscape.

President Barzani expressed his pleasure in meeting with the Sunni parties and hoped the gathering would foster further understanding and coordination among the parties. He noted that a positive atmosphere had emerged in the Iraqi political process.

Addressing the meeting of coalition forces, President Barzani emphasized that this issue should be handled with a national consensus, prioritizing Iraq's and the region's interests and stability.

Regarding the appointment of the speaker of the Iraqi parliament, President Barzani stressed that public interest and the future of Iraq should take precedence over individual and party interests, urging the Sunni parties to cooperate and resolve the issue promptly.

President Barzani's Visit to Baghdad

President Massoud Barzani, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Region, arrived at Baghdad International Airport at 11:20 pm on Wednesday. He was welcomed by Deputy Prime Ministers Mohammed Tamim and Fuad Hussein, along with other Iraqi government and political officials.

On the first day of his visit, President Barzani met with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and several Iraqi political leaders. He also attended two meetings of the State Management Coalition and the Coordination Framework.

President Barzani Meets with Iraqi Political Leaders

During his meetings with Iraqi political leaders, President Barzani discussed several key issues, including local and regional political conditions, the presence of coalition forces in Iraq, oil, the budget, the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region, and the election of the speaker of parliament. The export of oil from the Kurdistan Region was also a major topic of discussion.

President Barzani expressed his optimism about his visit to Baghdad and his meetings with Iraqi political parties, noting, "There is an opening in the Iraqi political environment that could be a good opportunity to exchange views on obstacles and resolve issues."

He emphasized the common history of the parties in the struggle against dictatorship, the efforts to build a new Iraq, and the drafting of the constitution, which he described as a strong foundation for overcoming problems and obstacles.

President Barzani's Meetings with Global Representatives in Baghdad

President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday also met with Alina L. Romanowski, the United States Ambassador to Iraq, in Baghdad, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

Later on, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani received Cui Wei, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, in Baghdad, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

In addition to series of diplomatic meetings, President Barzani met with British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen in Baghdad, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

He also met with France's Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel, in Baghdad.

Additionally, on Thursday, KDP President Masoud Barzani received a joint delegation of ambassadors from eight Arab countries at his headquarters.
