21 thousand tons of rice growing anticipated in Duhok
The Agricultural Director of Duhok Province Ahmad Jameel highly valued the Kurdistan soil’s fertility.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Agricultural Director of Duhok Province Ahmad Jameel announced that this year, it is anticipated that 21 thousand tons of rice growing in Duhok in the Kurdistan Region. He revealed that to the Kurdistan 24 on Wednesday, he also confirmed that 21 thousand and 468 dunams of land grew rice in the area.
“We expect to have 21 thousand tons of rice. We do have different types of rice, called Tahaluf, Kasandita, the one produces a nice smell, the 3-moth-type and 6 month-type...etc. Depending on a- research that was carried out in Akre, we look forward to a good production, i.e. for each dunam of rice growing, it is thought to reach from 860 to one thousand and 200 kilos” Jameel assumed.
He added “Rice is to some extend dearer, and highly on demand in both Kurdistan Region and Iraq as well. It is exported to Europe and America by two companies, that is a good step to trade this type of crop, as well as the farmers will be encouraged to grow rice.”
