ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Gomaspan Dam, located 35 kilometers northeast of Erbil, is set to become the largest dam in Erbil province and the third largest in the Kurdistan Region after the Dukan and Darbandikhan dams.

Raber Hussein, the Erbil Water Director, informed the Media and Information Office that 75% of the dam's construction has been completed.

The project, with an estimated cost of 95 billion dinars, features a dam standing 70 meters high and 512 meters long.

The dam relies on rainwater and local springs, with a total capacity of 97 million cubic meters. It has already accumulated more than 10 million cubic meters of water.

Upon completion, the Gomaspan Dam will play a crucial role in addressing the water shortage in Erbil.

In addition to its primary function, the dam is expected to become a significant tourist attraction, contribute to fish farming, support irrigation in the surrounding areas, mitigate flood risks, and enhance groundwater levels.
