ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a historic first for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Dadvan Esmat, a 24-year-old businessman and investor from Zakho, is set to take the Kurdistan flag to the moon.
Esmat, who currently resides in Dubai, UAE, announced on Wednesday, that he has signed a contract worth over $2 million with a company owned by U.S. businessman Elon Musk to embark on this groundbreaking journey in 2025.
Esmat, who previously climbed Mount Everest with the Kurdistan flag, shared his excitement with Kurdistan24, stating, "I want to be the first Kurd and the first Iraqi to go to the moon. It is my childhood passion, and I want to raise the Kurdistan flag on the moon."
The young entrepreneur will spend several days on the moon, with all necessary provisions, including clothing, food, and water, supplied by the company facilitating his journey.
This mission marks a significant milestone, echoing the achievements of NASA's Apollo program, which first sent humans to the moon in 1969.
The Apollo missions, culminating in Apollo 17 in 1972, saw a total of 12 astronauts, all Americans, set foot on the lunar surface.
Esmat's upcoming journey will add a new chapter to this legacy, making him the first Kurd and Iraqi to reach the moon.
