New Academic Year 2024-25 announced through Kurdistan 24
In some universities, allocating students’ accommodations has already started.
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – On Wednesday, the new academic year 2024-25, in Kurdistan Region, was revealed to Kurdistan 24.
It’s stated that some universities and institutions reopen on September 2nd, 2024.

Salahaddin University
On Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, the Head of Salahaddin University Dr. Kamran Younis, stated to Kurdistan24 that September 2nd, 2024 has been proposed as the start day for the new academic year 2024-2025, however, the University Council has not, yet, officially approved the start date.
Salahaddin University’s Rector further explained the academic staff start just a day before students, and a week before the official date of work.
Duhok University
Likewise the Salahaddin University Start Day, Duhok University does reopen on September 2nd, 2024, the President of Duhok University Dr. Dawood Atrushi, revealed to Kurdistan 24 on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024.
In Duhok University, as a routine, a few days before the Start Day of the new academic year, Students’ Homes will be prepared and designated; female students get accommodated on the university campus, yet the males are allocated to those in the town center.
University of Zakho
Dr Ramazan Jaafar, Vice President of Zakho University for Student Affairs, announced to Kurdistan24, "The new academic year will start on September 10th, 2024."
The first week of the new academic year at Zakho University is dedicated to students’ enrolment, upon following the Polish system, as it’s been applied to a number of universities in the Kurdistan Region for several years now.
Soran University
Rebar Abdulghafar Aziz, who is in charge of the media network department at the university, announced to Kurdistan24 “The new academic year 2024-2025 begins next month, which is September the 1st,”
“Also, accommodating started on August 15th, and the procedure is ongoing. It is until the end of this month”
Halabja University
The Head of the Media Network Department at the university, Harem Mohammed stated to Kurdistan24 “The date for the Start Day has not been officially determined yet. We are, currently, busy with the changes in the admin post”
He expected the new academic year to start between September 1st and 3rd.
Sulaimani University
Kurdistan24 chased up any updates from Sulaimani University, it is understood there is an official announcement about the Start Day of the new academic year 2024-2025 in the university.
Yet, it is said that the University Council proposed a time period for the new academic year to be between September 5th and 10th.
