ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, has become a significant center for decision-making and diplomacy in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, according to diplomatic experts and political analysts. Over the past 28 years, the city's economic development and improved services have bolstered its influence on the national stage.

"If any world leader visits Iraq without engaging Erbil, their decisions or recommendations are unlikely to succeed. Iraq has not been able to form successive governments without Erbil's support," said political analyst Farhad Kakeyi in an interview with Kurdistan24.

Kakeyi highlighted the city's unique coexistence as a key driver of development, emphasizing that Erbil’s progress in sectors such as services, infrastructure, and trade has positioned it as a pivotal player in regional politics. The city’s rise has set it apart from other provinces in Iraq.

Hama Farj, an expert in diplomatic relations, reinforced this view, stating that decisions made in Erbil not only shape the future of the Kurdistan Region but also significantly impact Iraq as a whole. Farj attributed this influence to the strategic leadership of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani, whose foresight has contributed to Erbil's elevated standing in national and international affairs.

Erbil’s transformation into a diplomatic and political hub reflects its growing importance in Iraq’s political landscape, with its decisions holding sway over critical national matters.
