His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and Pakistan (MEaP) at the UK Department for Business and Trade, Oliver Christian welcomed by the Ambassador Hitchen in Baghdad
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Around two weeks ago, precisely on August 21st, the Consul General at the British Consulate General in Erbil, Andrew Bizley posted, through his social platform X (formerly known- Twitter), hosting a group of UK businesses in Erbil the capital city of Kurdistan Region.
It is understood that, in Kurdistan Region and UK, several significant sessions set off essential Milestone Start towards further steps to development in Kurdistan Region.
“To discuss the latest economic developments, business landscape, and opportunities in the KRI (Kurdistan Region)”, Mr. Bizley stated in his tweet, while hosting the UK businesses “glad to have met UK companies offering quality brands and services in the Kurdistan Region”

Following the session, further arrangements, appointments and invitations for the UK businesses scheduled, His Majesty's Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hitchen welcomed His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and Pakistan (MAaP) at the UK Department for Business and Trade and His Majesty’s Consul General to Dubai, Oliver Christian on September 1st, 2024.
Mr. Christian was previously the Head of the former Prime Minister’s Business Unit in Downing Street and in charge of the bridge between UK and its international businesses and investors.
He has 13 years of experience in trade, investment, business, regulation and security across several Departments and represented the UK in its missions overseas.
In a post through his social platform account, Hitchen stated “Delighted to welcome the UK Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, to Baghdad. Like me, he believes that Iraq is full of economic and business opportunity,”
As usual British sense of humor would cheerfully give a pleasant feeling to the atmosphere, Hitchen, in his post added up to the video, saying “But first I wanted a) to let him try Hajj Zibala’s grape juice; and b) see my terrible football skills”

HM Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and Pakistan (HM Trade Commissioner MEaP)
HM Trade Commissioner MEaP cooperates and guides the British diplomatic network around the world, so to coordinate the government’s effort overseas in term of trade and prosperity between UK and especially, countries in the Middle East.
The duties of the head of this office are fully responsible of all the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) work in that region as well as:
- The bilateral trade and investment relationship
- Improving market access for British companies, including small medium businesses (SMEs)
- Developing finance and trade policy
- UK Export Finance
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
It is a British well-known and important governmental organization, in charge of UK’s diplomatic, development and consular work around the world. FCDO is a ministerial department, backed by 12 other governmental agencies and public bodies from UK.
Almost 17,000 employees and staff work for the FCDO, in the global network, it is divided onto 281 offices across the world.
