PM Barzani to attend COP29 in Azerbaijan

Prime Minister Barzani on Monday received Nasir Mammadov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Iraq, in which Mammadov extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Barzani to attend the 2024 COP29.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani will attend the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Nov. 11.

Prime Minister Barzani on Monday received Nasir Mammadov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Iraq, in which Mammadov extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Barzani to attend the 2024 COP29.

The main objectives of COP29 are to accelerate global efforts to reduce carbon emissions, enhance climate resilience, and ensure financial support for vulnerable countries. The conference aims to bring together world leaders, scientists, and activists to forge stronger commitments and innovative solutions to tackling climate change. Additionally, it seeks to promote international cooperation and transparency in implementing climate policies.

On Dec. 1, 2023, the Prime Minister participated in the COP28 in Dubai and was welcomed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
