ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani laid the foundation stone for 15 new kindergartens and schools in the Khabat district of Erbil province on Tuesday, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani highlighted the government's efforts in education despite the challenges faced in recent years.
"Despite the problems and crises, we have always prioritized the education sector to the best of our ability. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we did not allow the education process to stop. However, the development of the education sector requires further attention and investment,” the Prime Minister stated.
PM Barzani emphasized the need for more schools and improved educational resources to create a conducive learning environment for students.
"In order for our beloved students to study in a suitable environment, we need more schools and educational materials. Schools must be brought to a standard level," he said.
Reflecting on past challenges, the Prime Minister noted that infrastructure development in the education sector had been delayed due to various pressures on the Kurdistan Region.
However, progress has been made, with both the Ministry of Education and the private sector building dozens of new schools and renovating thousands of existing ones.
Prime Minister Barzani revealed that by the end of the year, 194 new schools will be built and 1,670 schools will be renovated.
He also expressed gratitude to the private sector for its contribution to the construction of the 15 schools being built in Khabat, which will support the public education system.
"The foundation stone for these 15 schools today is laid with the assistance of the private sector, and it is appropriate to thank them for their contributions to public education," PM Barzani said.
The event marks a significant step toward enhancing the quality of education in the Kurdistan Region, aligning with the government's broader vision for the sector's development.
There's no greater investment than in the next generation.
