Industry, Manufacturing In Kurdistan Region’s Agriculture

It is progressing and becoming a significant turning point, particularly over the past 5 years, to improving, reaching a commencing milestone of rapturing the locality trade circle noticed.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The 9th Cabinet at the Kurdistan Regional Government aimed to serve people as well as the region. One of the sectors received, a great, attention from the government is the agricultural sector.

With providing funds, facilities, supplying tools and needs to the users, also supporting all the relevant teams and departments in the governmental sector to cooperate and coordinate with farmers, a noticeable change prevailed the agriculture source.

It is progressing and becoming a significant turning point, particularly over the past 5 years, improving is noticed, and reaching a commence milestone of rapturing the locality of the trade circle. 

Kurdish crops grains, fruits and vegetables exported to neighboring countries, for example rice, smaq (it is an edible seed, lemon-like taste, grows from a tree called smaq), tahin, pomegranate, apple, honey and potatoes exported to UAE, Gulf markets and Europe.

According to the statistics from the agricultural sources, showed the agricultural investment increased from %1.8 to %8 in the last 5 years in Kurdistan Region.

Over all, the Kurdistan Regional Government is working to strengthen the food and industrial infrastructure and support the domestic growing production. 

Likewise, the manufacturing as well as improving the industrial progressing within the agriculture is a target can be achieved by the 9th Cabinet at the Kurdistan Region Government. 

In Erbil province, the construction of Qushtapa grain warehouse (silo) with a storage capacity of 40000 tons of wheat has operated with a budget 21 billion dinars.

The silo building project continued in all other cities in the region, for example in Kalar, which is within the Sulaimani province, implemented with a budget 20 billion dinars.

Roviya grain store warehouse in Duhok province, with a budget 18 billion dinars, it has a capacity to store 40000 tons of wheat, in addition to a wheat store warehouse worth 26 billion dinars in Halabja, with a capacity of storing 40000 tons of wheat. 

According to the governmental sources, 977 factories have been given licenses to operate, and more than 4500 factories have permission of operation, as well as more than 7200 local companies, 216 non-local companies, 358 branches from Baghdad are operating in Kurdistan Region.

It’s understood that 30000 greenhouses have been built, in which more than 3800 farmers benefited from.

Furthermore, 6000 potato’s productions factories, more 11 various factories for agricultural products, have been operated beside 101 cooling storage warehouses operate.
