ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday in a post on X congratulated Mark Rutte on becoming NATO Secretary General.

“Sincere congratulations to my friend Mark Rutte on your appointment as @SecGenNATO,” the prime minister said.

The premier also added that he “looks forward to our cooperation on issues of mutual interest.”

Rutte is a prominent Dutch politician who served as the Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 2010 to 2023. Prior to his role as Prime Minister, he held various ministerial positions, including State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment. His extensive experience in governance and international relations makes him well-suited for the role of NATO Secretary General.

The key areas of cooperation between Kurdistan and NATO are likely to include regional security, counter-terrorism efforts, and military training. Strengthening these areas can contribute to greater stability and peace in the region. Additionally, both parties may focus on enhancing humanitarian aid and rebuilding efforts in conflict-affected areas.
