Perpetrators of Erbil Governorate attack receive death sentence

The Islamic State (IS) members responsible for the terror attack in front of the Erbil Governorate in 2014 received death and life imprisonment sentences on Wednesday.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Islamic State (IS) members responsible for the terror attack in front of the Erbil Governorate in 2014 received death and life imprisonment sentences on Wednesday.

Erbil Criminal Court sentenced seven IS members to death and five others to life in prison.

According to a statement by the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), “the criminals directly planned and supervised ‘the terror attack’ and are networks linked to the IS and are responsible for some terror attacks in Kirkuk.”

The 13 convicted perpetrators were arrested by the KRSC’s Directorate of Counter-Terrorism.

On Nov. 19, 2014, a suicide car bomb exploded in front of the Erbil Governorate building resulting in the death of five people and wounding 29 others.

On June 13, 2016, Erbil Court sentenced seven members of the Islamic State (IS) to death and sentenced 10 others to life in prison.

The criminals were convicted of conducting the “terror attack” in the town of Ankawa in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region in April 2015.

The 17 convicted perpetrators were arrested by the KRSC Directorate of Counter-Terrorism, who had links to the plot near the US General Consulate in Erbil.
