IHEC urges political parties to adhere to fair campaign practices ahead of 2024 elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – As the countdown to the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections, scheduled for October 20, 2024, begins, the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has called on political parties, alliances, and candidates to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process by adhering to the established rules of conduct.

In a recent statement, the Board of Commissioners highlighted the importance of maintaining electoral integrity as the election timetable nears completion.

"With most of the milestones for the election of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament’s sixth session now met, the commission urges political participants to support its work and contribute to the success of the elections by adhering to the rules of electoral conduct and the electoral campaign system set under Electoral Campaign System No. (2) of 2023," the statement read.

The commission further emphasized the need for peaceful and respectful campaigning.

“We hope that election campaigns will not incite violence, hatred, or target other candidates and parties with harmful rhetoric,” the statement continued.

The body also encouraged candidates to follow legal protocols when submitting complaints or appeals, stressing that it would handle them with neutrality and independence.
