ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In a rousing speech delivered at a Kurdish Democratic Party (KDP) election rally in the Zrareti region on Monday, Sidad Barzani, a member of the KDP's Political Bureau and the KDP President’s representative for the election campaign, emphasized the importance of the upcoming Kurdistan Parliament elections.

Barzani declared that participating in these elections is not only a civic responsibility but also a "religious, national, and patriotic duty." He drew parallels between the current electoral moment and the events of Oct. 20, 2017, when Kurdistan faced significant challenges to its autonomy.

"The Zrareti region has always been closely aligned with the KDP," Barzani stated, expressing confidence in the party's success due to the support of its loyal base. He highlighted the KDP's historical role as a "fortress" in defending Kurdistan's land and people, asserting that the party is well-positioned to continue this crucial role in the future.

Sidad Barzani asserted, "The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has always stood as a steadfast fortress in defense of our land and nation. The past, present, and future bear witness to this commitment, and the KDP is prepared to continue playing this vital role, safeguarding the honor and dignity of Kurdistan."

Reflecting on recent history, Barzani recounted how in Oct. 2017, enemies of Kurdistan, with the aid of certain factions, attempted to undermine the region's autonomy. However, he proudly noted that through the resilience of the Peshmerga, the backing of Kurdistan's patriotic citizens, and the wise leadership of President Barzani, these efforts were thwarted.

"Whenever the KDP has been strong, with the support of Kurdistan's loyal populace behind it, Kurdistan itself has been strong," Barzani asserted. He emphasized that not everyone is capable of safeguarding Kurdistan's strength, attributing this ability to leadership that has consistently defended the will of the Kurdish people.

Barzani urged voters to support the KDP's List 190 in the upcoming elections on Oct. 20, describing it as the "list of prosperity, unity, and resilience." He drew a connection between this electoral moment and the resistance shown in Oct. 2017, calling for the same spirit of determination at the ballot box.

The Kurdistan Parliament elections are scheduled for Oct. 20 of this year, to be overseen by Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission. According to biometric voter registration data, the total number of eligible voters in the Kurdistan Region for this election is 2,899,878, with 2,683,618 general voters and 215,960 special category voters.
