ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw expressed satisfaction with the ongoing parliamentary election process during a press conference held on Sunday, commending the efforts of Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and its Erbil office.

"I hope the remaining hours will continue as smoothly and peacefully as they have been so far, ultimately benefiting the people of Kurdistan," Khoshnaw stated during the press conference.

The Governor emphasized the election's significance in legitimizing government institutions, noting that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has done everything in its power to ensure a peaceful and proper electoral process.

Addressing technical concerns, Khoshnaw confirmed that IHEC staff have resolved equipment-related issues. "For cases where fingerprint verification fails, they have established a specific quota allowing affected citizens to participate in the voting process," he explained.

"Thus far, we haven't encountered any significant issues that would necessitate suspending or postponing the process," the Governor added, praising the electoral commission's thorough preparations.

Regarding the ban on mobile phones at polling stations, Khoshnaw explained that this measure was implemented to protect the integrity of the process, ensuring voters can make their choices free from external pressure or influence.

The statement comes as part of ongoing efforts to maintain transparency and security throughout the Kurdistan Parliament's sixth cycle elections.
