Acting Iraqi Parliament Speaker congratulates Kurdistan Region on successful parliamentary elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, Acting Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, extended his congratulations to the Kurdistan Region's Presidency, government, and voters on the successful completion of the sixth parliamentary elections in a statement released today.

In his message, Al-Mandalawi praised the efforts of Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), Kurdistan Region's security forces, and all relevant parties for managing the elections in a peaceful and secure environment.

"The smooth conduct of the Kurdistan Parliament elections in this stable atmosphere reflects the Kurdish people's commitment to democracy and peaceful transfer of power," Al-Mandalawi stated. "This step represents the voters' will and their aspirations for stability, development, and prosperity."

The Acting Speaker expressed hope that the election results would "facilitate the swift formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government's tenth cabinet and strengthen relations between Erbil and Baghdad."

The electoral process, which included special voting on Friday, October 18, 2024, and general voting on Sunday, October 20, 2024, saw impressive turnout rates. Special voting achieved a 97 percent participation rate, while general voting exceeded 72 percent, demonstrating strong civic engagement across the region.

The high turnout and peaceful conduct of the elections mark another successful democratic exercise in the Kurdistan Region, reinforcing its commitment to democratic principles and institutional stability.
