EU Mission in Iraq welcomes KRG Parliamentary elections, urges swift government formation

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - The European Union's Mission to Iraq welcomed the Kurdistan Region's sixth parliamentary elections held on Oct. 20, emphasizing the importance of this democratic exercise that had been delayed for over two years.
In a statement released on Monday, the EU Mission highlighted its persistent advocacy for holding the elections, describing them as "a key mechanism for citizens to express their political will."
"The European Union maintains excellent relations with the Kurdistan Region and calls for the swift convening of the new Kurdistan Parliament," the statement read.
The EU Mission also urged all political parties to form the new Kurdistan Regional Government promptly, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing "the interests, unity, and stability of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq."
The statement underscores the EU's continued support for democratic processes in the Kurdistan Region and its commitment to maintaining strong bilateral relations during this period of political transition.
