Review and ranking of complaints will be announced tomorrow

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) will announce the results of the complaints from the parliamentary general elections in Kurdistan Region on Thursday, October 24th, 2024. 

“189 complaints have been filed by the political parties against the results from the parliamentary general election in Kurdistan Region” Dawud Salman, Training and Procedures Director at IHEC, stated to Kurdistan 24, on Wednesday. 

The IHEC formed three committees to review and classify the complaints were filed against the sixth round of the Kurdistan parliamentary general elections.

“The process of reviewing and ranking the complaints by the political parties continues, so far we have not received any red complaints, only green and yellow complaints," Dawud Salman said. 

"We will try to complete the review and ranking of the complaints today and announce the results to the public tomorrow, Thursday, October 24th, 2024,” He added “it is unlikely that the outcome of the complaints would affect the election results and the number of political parties seats," 

Also, Jumana al-Ghalai, the IHEC spokesperson stated to Kurdistan 24, last week that the green and yellow complaints would not affect the election results.

According to her statement, Ghalai believed the red complaints must be decided by the council of commissioners which may affect the election results.

On Friday, October 18th, 2024, the special voting and on Sunday, October 20th, 2024, the general voting for the sixth round of the Parliamentary General Election in Kurdistan Region was held.

According to the IHEC’s statistics, an average of %70 of voters participated in voting general and special elections. 

Number of seats of political parties according to the preliminary results:

Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP): 39 seats

Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK): 23 seats

New Generation Movement: 15 seats

Kurdistan Islamic Union: 7 seats

Helwest Movement: 4 seats

Kurdistan Justice Group: 3 seats

People's Front (Berey Gel): 2 seats

Gorran Movement: 1 seat

Kurdistan Region Alliance: 1 seat

Component Quota: 5 seats

Number of votes of political parties according to preliminary statistics:

KDP: 809,197 votes

PUK: 408,141 votes

New Generation: 290,991 votes

Kurdistan Islamic Union: 116,981 votes 

Helwest Movement: 55,775 votes

Kurdistan Justice Group: 64,710 votes

People's Front (Berey Gel): 33,365 votes

Gorran Movement: 11,621 votes

Kurdistan Regional Alliance: 12,929 votes

Kurdistan Islamic Movement: 5,503 votes
