Iraqi PM, Iranian FM discuss Syrian conflict, regional challenges

According to the readout of the meeting issued by the office of Iraq’s Prime Minister, the Iraqi Premier has reiterated the official and unchangeable position of Iraq in supporting security and stability in Syria.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Friday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and discussed regional challenges and the current state of affairs in Syria.

During the meeting, the bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran, and the complexities of the events in the Middle East, and in particular in Syria, were discussed.  

According to the readout of the meeting issued by the office of Iraq’s Prime Minister, the Iraqi Premier has reiterated the official and unchangeable position of Iraq in supporting security and stability in Syria.

Iraqi Prime Minister also underscored the importance of respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.

Moreover, the Iraqi PM highlighted the importance of diplomatic efforts and stated that “Iraq will continue to seek diplomatic means to solve the current crisis in Syria,” adding that “Syria’s security is linked to Iraq’s and can affect it.”

“We cannot separate the events in Syria from the broader regional events occurring both in Gaza and Beirut. All together threaten the security and stability of the entire region,” he added.
