Putin urges for resolution of Kurdish issue in Syria
Speaking at an end-of-year press conference in Moscow, attended by Kurdistan24's Khushawi Mohammed, Putin spoke about the downfall of Assad's regime, the latest situation in Syria, and the need for addressing the Kurdish issue in the region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Thursday, the Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined the importance of solving the Kurdish issue in Syria, while recognizing Turkey's "security concerns."
Speaking at an end-of-year press conference in Moscow, attended by Kurdistan24's Khushawi Mohammed, Putin spoke about the downfall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the latest situation in Syria, and the need for speaking about the Kurdish issue in the region.
Putin detailed that the Kurdish issue in Syria "should have been fixed during the tenure of the former Syrian president," and underlined that "it still needs a solution with the parties controlling Syrian territories at the moment."
"Turkey is eager to ensure its security, and we fully understand that," the Russian leader added.
He also rejected claims that Russia's involvement in Syria had ended in failure, describing such statements "incorrect."
In the meantime, the French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Wednesday, called for the protection of "our Kurdish allies" in Syria and the protection of their rights.
"Our Kurdish allies have played a crucial role in fighting ISIS," Barrot told Reuters, adding that a meeting will be held in January to discuss Syria’s situation, with participation from Arab, Turkish, and Western allies.
On Dec. 8, Syrian opposition forces, spearheaded by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS and its allies, seized the capital, Damascus, along with other cities, overthrowing the Assad dynasty after 53 years in power.
