KRG MoPA holds very important meeting, coalition rep. attends too

According to a statement from MoPA, a decision was made on a pre-prepared project to establish a two-regional headquarter consisting of 11 military Infantry units under the leadership and control of the Ministry of Peshmerga.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – On Sunday, December 22, 2024, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)'s Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, Shorsh Ismail chaired a high-level meeting, where a number of high-ranking seniors from Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs (MoPA) and Coalition forces Col. Rap Brandstetter Commander of the Coalition Forces attended.

According to a statement from MoPA, a decision was made on a pre-prepared project to establish a two-regional headquarter consisting of 11 military Infantry units under the leadership and control of the Ministry of Peshmerga. 

MoPA tweeted a message through X platform, stating that the reform process and unification of all Peshmerga forces were focused on in that meeting. 

The Peshmerga Minister said "two regional headquarters will be made to reorganize and unite the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces under the Ministry of Peshmerga's leadership, that will also reorganize their affairs and will be a new start for the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces" 

Based on the same statement by MoPA, in another part of the meeting, the creating of a military infrastructure for the Peshmerga Ministry was discussed, all the attendees in the meeting agreed that such step will support MoPA to build a unified national force of Kurdistan, in which to defend the people and homeland of Kurdistan against any danger that now or in the future faces Kurdistan and its people.

The decision of operating both headquarters under MoPA's supervision will be implemented, as well as all the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces will be reorganized within the MoPA's framework from the beginning of 2025.  

At the end of the meeting, it was unanimously approved to establish a unified military accountancy unit for the Peshmerga Forces of Kurdistan, accordingly to the principles of the unit.
