Lack of water, electricity, Kobani residents suffer

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The northern part of Syrian (Rojava) where Kobani city locates in, Masud Bozi, the Manager of Water Service in Kobani, stated "As a result of the armed people's attacks on the Tshrin Dam, the water treatment, filtration plant and clean water distribution damaged, and that led to residents face difficulty of water shortage" 

At the same time, "there are efforts made to supply clean-drinkable water to the residents in Kobanê and surrounding villages, however due to the large border and population, it is difficult to easily supply water" Bozi further mentioned.  

The Head of the Kobanê Energy Board, Aisha Nasir, said "due to the fighting and clashes nearby the Tshrin Dam, the equipment as well as electricity generating station damaged, shortage of supply and continuous war made it difficult to send out a technical team to the dam, therefore, maintenance and supplying electricity will be delayed" 

It's reported that despite the shortages of fuels, Kobanê residents have been trying to obtain electricity to their homes through generators and other appliances and turn to wells for clean water. 

Fighting between the US-Led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and armed groups near the west of Euphrates River which is close to the Turkey border continues.

According to the news sources, Qizali villages that locates within the Gre Spi town, intensively bombed by the armed groups, on Monday night, December 23rd, 2024, however, SDF announced that they regained control on Tshrin Dam and several villages around. 

According to the local source's statistics, nearly 20,000 people in Kobanê and surrounding villages are suffering from water and electricity shortages due to attacks by armed groups and the Turkish army.
