ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The General Command of Internal Security Forces in northern and eastern Syria (ASAYISH - Hêzên Ewlekariya Hundirîn) confirmed Turkish drone strikes hit central Qamishlo on Friday, marking a noteworthy expansion of military operations that have lately centered around the strategic Tishrin Dam area.

The attack damaged a civilian building and ignited heating fuel storage tanks, according to the ASAYISH statement.

This incident follows a deadly strike near Tishrin Dam days earlier that killed four civilians and wounded 19 others, underlining an ostensible shift in Turkish military strategy in the region.

Military analysts note that Turkey's emphasis on the Tishrin Dam area signifies a calculated change away from conventional urban clashes along the border regions of Hasaka and Raqqa.

The dam's strategic value extends beyond its military significance, as it supplies crucial electricity to Aleppo, potentially providing leverage in negotiations with the Damascus government.

In Qamishlo, the ASAYISH has urged for international intervention to address what it terms "indiscriminate bombardment" of civilian areas.

The expansion of strikes to urban centers like Qamishlo, while maintaining pressure at Tishrin Dam, suggests a broadening of Turkish military operations in the region.

Local authorities continue to assess damage from the latest strikes while emergency services respond to the immediate humanitarian needs, particularly concerning civilian heating fuel supplies during the winter months.
