ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is set to send a delegation to Baghdad in the next few days to address longstanding political and technical issues, marking another step toward enhancing relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
Samir Hawrami, head of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani's office, announced during a recent press conference that a KRG delegation will soon visit Baghdad to tackle unsolved matters between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government.
“There are both political and technical issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi government,” Hawrami clarified, noticing that current discussions have made important strides toward mutual understanding, especially in terms of the implementation of laws.
He also acknowledged that political meddling remains a factor that could potentially hinder progress.
"More serious efforts are planned for 2025 to enduringly solve these pending issues," he highlighted, emphasizing the necessity for greater commitment to finding lasting solutions.
Progress Through Dialogue
Hawrami emphasized the recurrent exchange of delegations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad as a positive approach to detecting and tackling shortcomings.
While technical discussions have reportedly resulted in a significant degree of understanding, unsolved political factors remain a focal challenge.
The impending visit intends to build on this progress by nurturing further dialogue on disputatious issues, which include budget allocations, oil revenues, and the implementation of constitutional agreements.
Commitment to Resolution
The KRG’s refreshed efforts underline its commitment to attaining a stable and cooperative relationship with Baghdad.
The arranged visit will potentially center on reinforcing agreements that ensure fair resource distribution and respect for regional autonomy, in line with Iraq’s federal constitution.
The success of these discussions could set the tone for a more cooperative 2025, with both sides working toward solving disagreements that have historically strained their relationship.
