ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A Turkish military airstrike in the Dinarte sub-district of Akre on Monday killed two civilians amid the ongoing conflict between Turkish forces and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
According to Kurdistan24 correspondent Ari Hussein, the airstrike targeted the village of "Shahe," leading to the deaths of a man and a woman who were herding livestock.
The victims, residents of the nearby village of "Bamishmish" in Akre district, were inside a building at the time of the strike.
Their bodies have been transferred to the Akre Forensic Medicine Department.
This incident adds to an increasing toll of civilian casualties in the region.
Over the past three years, six civilians have lost their lives in the Dinarte sub-district due to the conflict between Turkish military forces and PKK fighters.
The Akre region has recurrently been trapped in the middle of Turkey’s military operations against the PKK, with civilians often paying the price for the continuing hostilities.
Despite frequent calls for restraint and measures to protect civilians, incidents like this airstrike underline the dangers faced by residents in these areas.
The Turkish military has escalated its operations in border regions like Dinarte, targeting suspected PKK positions.
However, these strikes often occur in close proximity to civilian areas, leading to loss of life, displacement, and destruction of property.
