ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Major General Hoshmand Rasheed, Peshmerga Deputy Commander for Administration and Supply, confirmed to Kurdistan24 on Monday that US support for the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces remains steadfast.

“The US financial and logistical assistance, including the provision of weapons and other military equipment, is continuing as per the prescheduled plans,” Major General Rasheed revealed.

He explained that the concerns about the continuation of US financial support is due to the increasing number of Peshmerga forces in the brigades benefiting from US assistance.

Two weeks ago, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Peshmerga announced that financial aid from coalition forces for December 2024 would be distributed to Peshmerga forces after the completion of financial and accounting procedures by the General Directorate of Budget and Programs.

Currently, 37,730 Peshmerga members and officers are receiving assistance through the “MyAccount” initiative, a significant step by the KRG in modernizing the ministry's financial processes.

The unification of the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces under the Ministry of Peshmerga has been a significant development aimed at streamlining and enhancing the operational capabilities of the region's defense forces.

This initiative consolidates various Peshmerga units that were previously operating semi-independently under political parties, into a single, unified structure, improving command, control, and coordination. Big efforts have been done so far; however, there still much more to do to complete the process.

The unification effort not only boosts the effectiveness of the Peshmerga but also aligns with international standards, enhancing cooperation with global allies.

On Monday, Albrecht von Wittke, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Erbil, told Kurdistan24 “Together with our international partners, Germany has contributed significantly to the unification process through capacity-building and training courses.”

The Consul General revealed that Germany has also provided equipment and supported the construction of a Peshmerga Clinic.

“Our support will continue because a unified Peshmerga force is necessary to provide stability and peace in the KRI and beyond,” he affirmed.

“The unification of the Peshmerga forces is crucial to build a strong and unified Kurdistan,” Wittke added.
