Kurdistan Region President, his French counterpart discuss regional stability and cooperation

During the conversation, President Macron congratulated President Barzani on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) parliamentary elections and stressed the importance of forming a new government.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed their strong partnership during a phone call on Friday, focusing on key regional developments and mutual cooperation, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency.  

The two leaders discussed the situation in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and broader developments in Syria and the Middle East. They underscored the importance of maintaining peace and stability, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve outstanding issues. President Barzani highlighted Baghdad’s pivotal role in ensuring Iraq’s overall stability.  

Expressing his deep appreciation, President Barzani thanked France for its unwavering support and praised President Macron’s role in assisting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region during critical times. He emphasized that the Kurdish people will always remember France’s assistance.  

President Macron, in turn, reaffirmed France’s commitment to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing its constitutional status and strategic importance. He also commended President Barzani’s ongoing efforts in promoting stability and resolving key issues.  

During the conversation, President Macron congratulated President Barzani on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) parliamentary elections and stressed the importance of forming a new government. Both leaders also highlighted the necessity of protecting the rights of all communities in Iraq and Syria, reiterating their support for Kurdish rights in Syria.  

The call concluded with both sides agreeing to continue close cooperation on matters of mutual interest, reinforcing the strong ties between the Kurdistan Region and France.
