Snowfall Expected in Urban Centers as Cold Front Sweeps Kurdistan Region
Snowfall mixed with rain will cover parts of Sulaimani and Duhok, while other regions will experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A winter storm is set to blanket the Kurdistan Region with snow and rain, with snowfall expected not only in mountainous areas but also in urban centers for the first time this season.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology, the weather system will reach Kurdistan on Thursday afternoon, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures due to a cold air mass moving from central Europe.
The storm is expected to bring widespread snowfall across border regions and high-altitude areas, particularly those above 1,000 meters. The heaviest snowfall is predicted to occur between Thursday night and early Friday morning.
The directorate also confirmed that snowfall mixed with rain will cover parts of Sulaimani and Duhok, while other regions will experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Forecasted precipitation levels are estimated between 12 and 18 mm.
By Friday afternoon, the storm’s intensity is expected to weaken, though temperatures will remain significantly low. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions as the cold front progresses.
